I retired from the Social Security Administration in April 2004 having worked for that agency for 33 years. My wife Joyce and I have been living in Lancaster County since 1977. And have been members of Faith Church since 1978. We are both originally from Greentown, Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountain area in Northeastern Pennsylvania. My wife and I have known each other since before we started 1st grade and went all through school together. We have three children and six grandchildren. I spend as much time as I can playing golf, and doing things with my grandchildren. I also enjoy woodworking in my shop, and collecting model trains. I am happy to be a part of the church staff here at Faith and hope to fulfill my duties in a manner that is pleasing to God and everyone here at Faith Church.
Michelle and I started at Faith Church in October 2002, and I became senior pastor in July 2008. I graduated from Lancaster Bible College and Evangelical Theological Seminary. Prior to coming to Faith Church as Youth/Associate Pastor, we served one year as church-planting missionaries in Kingston, Jamaica. We are the parents of four children. If you catch me in a free moment, I'll probably be reading a book, listening to U2 or REM, playing sports or Legos with my kids, enjoying a movie with Michelle or rooting for the Phillies or Redskins! More likely you'll find Michelle and I talking about God's heart for the oppressed and how we Americans can live the Gospel. We are so excited about how Faith Church is becoming a church that beats after God's heart, removing the chains of injustice, freeing the captives, preaching the good news, feeding the poor, discipling the believers, praying for the world.
I have been at Faith Church for about 14 years establishing my faith in God all along the way. I grew up in a family of four boys with two loving parents that worked so hard for us! I accepted Christ as my savior in the fifth grade and can remember it to this day, God has blessed me abundantly! I married my wife Heather Martin in May 2016 after six years dating and love doing life with her! We bought my parents house in Bird-In-Hand and Heather moved in from a whopping 10 min away in Leola. We’re both homebodies and love spending time with our friends and family. After High School I enlisted in the Army National Guard and did six years training in a Reconnaissance Platoon which ended this January of 2016. In that time graduated from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology majoring in Carpentry and worked commercial construction for two years at Wohlsen Construction. I left the commercial field for residential trim work where I now trim houses, install kitchen cabinets, and occasionally build decks. My goal is to open a custom woodshop at home. I love the outdoors; hunting/fishing, hiking, any and all sports, evening fires with friends and family and just messing around with projects at home. I chose to take on the YCMD position knowing how much it impacted my younger life and feeling a strong urge from the Lord to serve in this way. I aim to be a light for his Kingdom and live my life by example so that the Youth will see how beneficial following God is!
We’ve been involved with Faith Church in some way or another it seems over the past 14 years we’ve lived here from MOPS, to pioneer club & VBS when the kids were younger. Faith Church sponsored our cub scout den where I was a leader for 4 years. It just seems our lives have in some way intertwined with Faith Church in some way or another over the years since we moved here. We’ve enjoyed attending Faith as our home church the past year. The cleaning of the church is something we strive to do well. It’s been a great life lesson for our children to band together and cooperate and learn the value of doing a job well even if no one else see’s what it is you’ve done. Working as unto the Lord. Doing it as an entire family has in a strange way brought us closer together. Cairis has told me she looks forward to Saturday night! Who would have thought?
