Our History
In 1967, the Conference Missionary Society of our denomination, the Evangelical Congregational (EC) Church, asked pastors to suggest areas where a new EC Church could be started. Rev. David Heil, then pastor of the former Grace EC Church in Lancaster City, suggested an area east of Lancaster. The denomination approved Rev. Heil's proposal and purchased land along Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township.
Initially, this new congregation worshipped in the facilities of nearby Locust Grove Mennonite School. The first worship service was held on September 22, 1968 with fifty-six persons in attendance. Rev. Heil continued to pastor this new congregation until May 1969 when Rev. David Heffner was appointed as the first full-time pastor. It was also in May of 1969 that Faith EC Church was received into the membership of what was then called the Eastern Conference of the EC Church. On Sunday, March 28, 1971, the newly constructed church building was dedicated to be used for the glory of God and the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Since then the original church structure has been enlarged on two occasions. Now decades later, we thank God for his faithfulness and empowerment for ministry which the people of Faith Church have carried on since that time. We also look forward with anticipation as to how God is going to continue to use this congregation of followers of Jesus to share his love and good news to our community. We would love to talk with you further about that! You can contact us here. |
